Connecting Google Search Console and Submitting Sitemaps

Updated this week

What is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console (GSC) is a free Google tool that shows you how your website appears in Google Search — including which pages are indexed, how many impressions and clicks they receive, and any errors Google encounters. Connecting it after publishing your Psyke pages is a crucial step to monitor your SEO performance.

Step 1: Verify Ownership of Your Domain in Google Search Console

  1. Go to search.google.com/search-console and sign in with your Google account.

  2. Click Add Property and enter either your full domain or your subdomain (e.g. pages.yourdomain.com).

  3. Choose a verification method. The easiest for most users is the HTML tag method:

    • Copy the meta tag provided by Google.

    • In your Psyke dashboard, go to Settings → SEO → Head Scripts and paste the tag there.

    • Publish your changes, then return to GSC and click Verify.

Step 2: Submit Your Sitemap

A sitemap is a file that lists all the pages on your site. Submitting it to Google helps Google discover and index your Psyke pages faster.

  1. Psyke automatically generates a sitemap for your published pages. You can find it at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml (or pages.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml for subdomains).

  2. In Google Search Console, click on your property, then go to Sitemaps in the left sidebar.

  3. Enter sitemap.xml in the field and click Submit.

Step 3: Monitor Indexing Status

After submitting, return to the Sitemaps section after a few days to see how many pages have been indexed. Use the URL Inspection Tool to check a specific page and request indexing if it has not been picked up yet.

Tips

  • It can take Google anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to index new pages.

  • If pages are not being indexed, check for any noindex tags that might have been added accidentally.

  • Regularly check the Coverage report in GSC for errors or warnings.
